Apps That Ship to Both Stores

We have been through App Store review. It is not the easy part.

Umpy is ours — an officiating app live on both the App Store and Google Play, handling assignments, crew chat, searchable rulesets, and on-field tools that have to work on a diamond with no signal. Shipping it taught us the parts of mobile that nobody quotes for.

Most of the cost is not the app

Building the screens is the predictable part. What catches people out is everything around it: store review and the rejections that come with it, push notification infrastructure, handling users on three different OS versions, offline behaviour when the connection drops, and the release process every time you change something.

We quote for that work because we have paid for it on our own product. An estimate that only covers the build is not an estimate, it is the first invoice.

When you actually need an app

Far less often than people expect. A fast mobile website answers most needs without asking anyone to install anything, and we will tell you when that is the honest answer. An app earns its place when it needs offline capability, push notifications, device hardware, or when it is used so frequently that living on the home screen genuinely matters.

What you get

  • Native iOS and Android, shipped to both stores
  • Push notifications, offline handling, and real-time features
  • Store submission and review handled by us
  • A companion web app where it makes sense, so you are not app-only

Mobile App Development — Common Questions

How much does it cost to build a mobile app?+

A focused single-purpose app typically runs $25,000 to $60,000 for both platforms. Apps with real-time features, offline sync, or complex backends run higher. Store submission, push infrastructure, and the first round of review fixes should be in the quote — if they are not, the estimate is incomplete.

Do I need a native app or is a website enough?+

A fast mobile website covers most needs without asking anyone to install anything. An app is worth it when you need offline capability, push notifications, device hardware access, or when it is used frequently enough that being on the home screen matters.

Do you handle App Store and Google Play submission?+

Yes, including the review process and the rejections that come with it. We have shipped our own app to both stores, so we know what each one actually enforces.

How long does an app take to build?+

Typically three to six months for both platforms, including store review. Review alone can add one to three weeks per submission, which is why it belongs in the timeline rather than as a surprise at the end.
